Our Lady of Good Counsel Church recently issued the following announcement.

Annual Pilgrimage to the Grotto of Lourdes, Emmitsburg, MD

August 5 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

The Annual Diocesan Pilgrimage in Honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary: A Day of Prayer for World Peace through Conversion will be celebrated at the National Shrine Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes, Emmitsburg, Maryland, on Thursday, August 5, 2021, the Memorial of the Dedication of the Basilica of Saint Mary Major. This year, to accommodate our brothers and sisters in northern tier of our Diocese, the planned start time is 10:00 a.m.

Priests, Deacons, Consecrated Sisters and Brothers, and Seminarians are invited to lead small pilgrim groups from your Parishes to participate in this annual diocesan event. Priests must request a Letter of Good Standing from the Bishop’s Office. Priests who are willing to assist with Confessions or to con-celebrate the Holy Mass are asked to contact Father Michael Reid (717-637-4625 ext 113).

SCHEDULE

From 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., the Sacrament of Reconciliation will be celebrated outside the Chapel of Saint Mary’s on the Hill. During this time, Pilgrims may also opt to form small groups and walk the Via Crucis, pray the mysteries of Rosary along Rosary Lane, reflect in silent contemplation and prayer, or visit the gift shop.

From 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., pilgrims will have time for lunch. (Note: please bring your own lunch and something to share.)

Following lunch, pilgrims are invited to ascend the mountain to the Grotto along the Via Crucis, or along Rosary Lane, pausing to pray at one of the many shrines to the saints. This would be an opportune time to fill a container with natural spring water from taps around “Our Lady’s Pool”. The Priests will bless the water after Mass.

At 1:00 p.m., the Pilgrims’ Holy Mass at the Grotto of the Lourdes Cave begins. Father Michael Reid (St Vincent de Paul, Hanover) will preside. A free will offering will be collected to cover fees for the facility rental and Mass supplies.

Following Mass, pilgrims are invited to meander down the mountain to Saint Mary’s Chapel for a time of adoration before the Most Blessed Sacrament beginning at 2:30 p.m. During adoration, Father John Hoke (St Joseph, Milton) will offer a Eucharistic reflection and the Divine Mercy Chaplet will be chanted.

At 4:00 p.m. following Benediction, pilgrims may return home or enjoy the uplifting spiritual environment of the Shrine until 4:30 p.m. The gates to the Grotto close at 5:00 p.m.
