Senator Judy Ward and Representative Perry Stambaugh have announced that Port Royal will receive nearly $3.7 million in state funding to upgrade its municipal wastewater treatment plant. The funds aim to improve the quality of life for residents by enhancing critical infrastructure.
"This funding provides for much-needed wastewater treatment facility improvements that will increase the quality of life for the surrounding community," stated Senator Ward. She emphasized that low-interest loans from PENNVEST enable rural municipalities like Port Royal to make necessary upgrades without imposing additional financial burdens.
The project includes installing an ultraviolet disinfection system, updating computer technology systems, and making other improvements. Additionally, pump stations will be rehabilitated, with one being rerouted.
"Upgrades to the wastewater system in Port Royal will ensure residents are well served for decades to come," said Representative Stambaugh. He highlighted the importance of reliable infrastructure in making communities more livable.
The project is funded through a combination of a nearly $2.4 million loan and an additional $1.3 million in non-repayable funds. The 20-year loan carries a 1% interest rate.
Funding is provided by the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST), an independent state agency offering financial assistance for sewer, stormwater, and drinking water projects across Pennsylvania.
