Senator Judy Ward and Representative Perry Stambaugh have announced the allocation of nearly $3.7 million in state funds to enhance the municipal wastewater treatment plant in Port Royal. These improvements are slated to benefit residents of the area substantially.

“This funding provides for much-needed wastewater treatment facility improvements that will increase the quality of life for the surrounding community,” stated Sen. Ward. She emphasized that, "Low-interest loans like this from PENNVEST allow for rural municipalities like Port Royal to make necessary upgrades to critical infrastructure without additional financial burden.”

The project will involve several upgrades to the wastewater treatment plant, including the installation of an ultraviolet disinfection system, updated computer technology systems, and additional improvements. Additionally, pump stations will undergo rehabilitation, and one will be rerouted.

Rep. Stambaugh noted, “Upgrades to the wastewater system in Port Royal will ensure residents are well served for decades to come.” He added that, “Reliable, high-functioning infrastructure makes our communities more livable.”

The funding arrangement includes a loan of nearly $2.4 million, along with $1.3 million in non-repayable funds. The loan has a 20-year term with a 1% interest rate.

The Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST), an independent state agency tasked with providing financial assistance for sewer, stormwater, and drinking water projects throughout Pennsylvania, is providing the funding for the project.
