Grants have been awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) to support two projects in Perry County, as announced by Representative Perry Stambaugh and Senator Greg Rothman. The funding comes from Marcellus Shale natural gas impact fees.
Marysville Borough and Newport Elementary School are the recipients of these grants. Marysville Borough Stormwater Authority will receive $87,000 to reduce sediment runoff through various infrastructure improvements. Meanwhile, Newport Elementary School PTO has been granted $62,500 for playground renovations to enhance accessibility for handicapped students.
“These projects will address the health of our waterways and ensure all Newport Elementary School students can enjoy recreation facilities at their school,” stated Stambaugh. “I applaud the CFA for recognizing how worthwhile these initiatives are.”
Rothman emphasized the importance of local natural resources, saying, “Perry County is home to natural resources that contribute greatly to our quality of life. I am pleased these projects will protect and improve those resources for future generations and encourage wellness through outdoor recreation.”
The Marcellus Legacy Fund was established by Act 13 of 2012 to aid local and state government entities.
