Superintendent Update and 21-22 Health and Safety Plan

Healthcare

Carroll Elementary School recently issued the following announcement.

WPSD Students, Parents/Caregivers, and Staff:

I hope you are enjoying your summer vacation!  We are looking forward to seeing everyone on campus on Monday August 23rd.  I would like to provide you with an update on the District’s Health and Safety Plan and a few items for the start of the 2021-2022 school year.

On July 19, 2021, the WPSD approved the 2021-2022 Health and Safety Plan.  Some key points of the plan are as follows:

  • Facial coverings will be optional for all vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals when on school grounds.
  • Per federal orders, facial coverings will be required for all individuals while on school district transportation.
  • Vaccinations will not be required for students or staff.
  • Volunteers and Guests will be permitted inside school buildings.
  • Large group spaces, i.e. Auditorium/Stage, Gymnasiums, Cafeterias, Libraries, and Art and Music rooms will be used during the upcoming school year.
  • Elementary students will be permitted to utilize all pieces of equipment during recess.
  • Class trips will be permitted for the school year.
  • Food sales will resume at all school and sporting events.
The WPSD will continue to monitor recommendations, guidelines, mandates, and orders from the CDC, PDE, and the PA DOH and adjust our Health and Safety plan accordingly.

The vision for the upcoming school year is to provide an education that resembles pre-pandemic school years.  Our focus will be to provide traditional, in-person instruction for all students.  All students will return to school on Monday, August 23rd.  The following start and end times will apply for the 2021-2022 school year:

Elementary: 8:35AM – 3:35PM

Middle School: 7:45AM – 2:30PM

High School: 7:30AM – 2:25PM

My hope is that this information provides you with the details needed to send your student(s) back to school knowing the WPSD is trying to plan for a sense of normalcy for the upcoming school year.  Enjoy the rest of your summer!

Thank you,

David M. Zula
