A $1.5 million state grant has been awarded to the Perry County Commissioners, aiming to consolidate the county’s administrative offices into a single complex. This funding comes from the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) and will be used for land acquisition and hiring architectural firms for planning and constructing a new county office building.
In previous years, the project received separate RACP awards totaling $4 million. Rep. Perry Stambaugh (R-Perry/Juniata) praised the commissioners’ foresight in recognizing how centralized services could benefit Perry County. “Over time, the new structure will save a lot of taxpayer dollars through improved efficiencies and reduced maintenance and expenses,” Stambaugh said.
The proposed building is expected to house various Perry County departments such as Children and Youth Services, Area Agency on Aging, Domestic Relations, Probation and Parole, Tax Assessment, Veterans Affairs, GIS & mapping, Planning Commission, among others. It will also include offices for Magisterial District Judge 41-3-04.
Senator Greg Rothman (R-Dauphin/Perry/Cumberland) expressed his support for the project: “Building infrastructure, creating efficiencies, and serving the needs of residents are priorities. I am glad to see these funds being directed to a project that will have such a significant impact in Perry County.”
RACP grants facilitate regional projects focused on economic, cultural, civic, recreational, and historical improvements. These grants are managed by the Office of the Budget.
