Nearly $409,000 in grants will be distributed to fire and emergency medical services departments in Perry and Juniata counties. The funding comes from the Office of the Fire Company and Emergency Medical Services Grant Program, as announced by Rep. Perry Stambaugh.
A total of 28 fire companies and ambulance or rescue squads in the 86th Legislative District are set to receive these grants. The funds are managed by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and the Office of the State Fire Commissioner. The money is sourced from slot machine gaming revenue and can be used for facility improvements, equipment purchases or repairs, debt reduction, education, public outreach, training, or efforts to recruit and retain volunteers.
“Firefighters and those who provide emergency medical services put themselves on the line every day for our townships and boroughs,” Stambaugh said. “Most do so as volunteers. These grants are one small way to support their tireless efforts and boost public safety.”
Among the recipients in Perry County are Blain EMS ($15,000), Duncannon Fire Co. No. 1 ($16,137), New Bloomfield EMS ($30,000), and several others receiving various amounts.
In Juniata County, organizations such as Beale Township Fire Department ($12,014), Central Juniata EMS ($15,000), Friendship Fire Co. No. 1 (Port Royal) ($13,663), Port Royal EMS ($15,000), and others will benefit from this round of grant funding.
