Senator Greg Rothman’s proposed legislation to allocate state funding for local bridge projects has been approved by the Pennsylvania State Senate. The bill, known as Senate Bill 205, aims to provide counties with the flexibility needed to finance repairs and construction of municipal bridges within their jurisdiction.
The current allocation of Motor License Fund dollars is limited to county-owned bridges, leaving municipal bridges without necessary repairs due to unclear spending guidelines. Rothman highlighted this issue, stating that “maintaining safe roads and bridges is a core function of government.” He emphasized that his legislation seeks to “remove barriers and give counties the flexibility they need” for essential infrastructure repairs.
With the Senate’s unanimous approval, Senate Bill 205 will now proceed to the House of Representatives for further consideration.
