Public invited to comment on CenturyLink settlement over service issues
State Rep. Perry A. Stambaugh — Pennsylvania 86th Legislative District

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission’s Bureau of Investigation and Enforcement is examining power outages and unreliable service provided by CenturyLink during and after Hurricane Ida. The commission is now inviting public comments on a proposed settlement with the utility, as stated by Representative Perry Stambaugh (R-Perry/Cumberland), who has been advocating for better services in rural areas.

In September 2021, Stambaugh filed a formal complaint with the support of Senators Judy Ward (R-Blair/Huntingdon/Fulton/Franklin/Cumberland) and John DiSanto (R-Dauphin/Perry). This action followed discussions with constituents who reported prolonged telephone outages, persistent maintenance problems, and inadequate service.

“CenturyLink placed blame on hurricane-caused flooding at its Philadelphia offices, which is ridiculous because those offices are quite far from the company’s franchised service territory,” said Stambaugh. “I hear often not only from families whose service is disrupted, but also from first responders who cannot get CenturyLink to promptly respond to downed wires and poles.”

The Public Utility Commission is currently accepting comments regarding this matter. Information on how to submit comments or report outages can be found at repperrystambaugh.com/puccenturylink.
