A state grant of $3 million has been awarded to the Perry County Commissioners to support the initial phases of a capital project. This project aims to consolidate many of the county’s administrative offices, which are currently located in rented spaces, into a single complex. The announcement was made by Representative Perry Stambaugh (R-Perry/Juniata).
The funding comes from the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) and will be used by the commissioners to purchase land and hire architectural firms for planning and constructing a new county office building. Last year, this project received an additional $1 million RACP award.
Perry County Commissioner Chairman Brian S. Allen stated, “What these grants do is allow the building to become a reality.” He added that over time, the new structure would save taxpayer dollars through improved efficiencies and reduced maintenance expenses.
Representative Stambaugh praised the commissioners for their foresight in recognizing the long-term benefits of centralized services for Perry County. “It was a no-brainer to seek these grants on their behalf,” he said.
The planned building will not impact court operations or offices supporting judicial services, according to Allen. RACP is administered by the Office of the Budget for projects involving regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational, and historical improvements. These projects are authorized under a Capital Budget Itemization Act and aim to have significant regional impacts while maintaining or increasing employment levels and tax revenues.
