Grants have been awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) to support two projects in Perry County. This announcement was made by Representative Perry Stambaugh and Senator Greg Rothman.
Marysville Borough and Newport Elementary School are the beneficiaries of these grants, which stem from the Marcellus Shale natural gas impact fees. Specifically, the CFA has allocated $87,000 to the Marysville Borough Stormwater Authority. This funding aims to address sediment runoff issues by repairing a riparian buffer, installing dams at an existing swale, and upgrading a detention basin. Additionally, Newport Elementary School’s Parent Teacher Organization received $62,500 to enhance playground accessibility for handicapped students.
Representative Perry Stambaugh expressed support for the initiatives, saying, “These projects will address the health of our waterways and ensure all Newport Elementary School students can enjoy recreation facilities at their school. I applaud the CFA for recognizing how worthwhile these initiatives are.”
Senator Greg Rothman highlighted the importance of the projects for the county, stating, “Perry County is home to natural resources that contribute greatly to our quality of life. I am pleased these projects will protect and improve those resources for future generations and encourage wellness through outdoor recreation.”
The Marcellus Legacy Fund, established by Act 13 of 2012, supports these local and state government entities.
