The bridge on Spring Road over the Conodoguinet Creek in North Middleton Township, Cumberland County, has been named in honor of Sergeant Patrick C. Hawkins. This announcement was made by Senator Greg Rothman (R-34).
Sergeant Patrick Hawkins, a native of North Middleton Township and son of Roy and Sheila Hawkins, graduated from Carlisle High School in 2007. He enlisted in the United States Army in 2010, following his upbringing in a military family. His dedication led to his assignment with Company B, 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment at Fort Benning, Georgia.
Tragically, Sergeant Hawkins lost his life during his fourth deployment while attempting to aid a wounded fellow Ranger in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan. In recognition of his bravery and service, he was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, and the Purple Heart.
Senator Rothman stated, “Sergeant Patrick Hawkins is deserving of every honor and recognition we can bestow.” He added that this designation serves as a reminder of Sergeant Hawkins’ sacrifice for national freedom.
The naming was part of Senate Bill 78 and received unanimous support from the full Senate. The bill now awaits the Governor’s signature.
